Tens of millions of pounds in tax remain unpaid following HMRC error

The Daily Telegraph have reported that tens of millions of pounds in corporation tax and VAT remain unpaid to HMRC after they changed bank details and failed to tell businesses of the change.

A large number of payments have remained uncollected, leaving firms unsure of how to pay and many receiving late payment notices.

A HMRC spokesperson said: “HMRC’s move to a new bank will be invisible to most customers, who will not need to do anything different when sending payment to HMRC. Customers paying from overseas will need to update their payment details. Anyone experiencing  difficulties in making payments should contact HMRC immediately.”
