Nusrat Sami and daughter Ibetsam Sami rented out properties across London without declaring their earnings or paying tax on them.

The duo appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court where it was revealed that they had earned more than £1.8m between the years 1999 and 2006.

They had rented out 10 properties in total with the tenants all paying the rent in cash.

They then failed to pay the tax due to HMRC.

HMRC officers began to investigate the pair in October 2006 and they appeared at Waltham Forest Magistrates’ Court charged with cheating the public purse contrary to common law.

In December 2009 Nusrat, of North West London, was found guilty of seven counts and Ibetsam, of Middlesex, was found guilty of two counts.

Nusrat was given a prison sentence of 42 months and Ibetsam was given a 200 hour community punishment order.
