It has been revealed in the news today that banking giant HSBC helped clients across the world evade paying millions of pounds in tax.

From details leaked 7,000 clients who held offshore HSBC accounts are based in the UK.

HMRC were given details of this leaked data back in 2010 and have identified 1,100 from the 7,000 UK clients who had not paid their taxes.

HMRC will continue to write to UK residents who they suspect of tax evasion. The letters state that those who do not come forward will be subject of an investigation by HMRC, possibly resulting in a criminal prosecution.
