Thank you kindly for your recent letters and for your efforts to convince the HMRC that they were at fault for the issue of a wrong code number even after protracted correspondence.

You really are very nice people to deal with and even though I consider the deduction of £138 per month from my private pension to be an absolute liberty it appears that acceptance of their decision to reclaim the tax is our only option.

So, at the age of 76, unlike many of today’s generation I will have to continue doing bits of part-time work to supplement my pensions.

I nearly lost everything; house, business, wife, family until Kinsella took hold of this investigation. After the first time I met him I slept well that night. Being a worrier I thought Kev would get grumpy with me but he encouraged me to ring him anytime, even weekends, when I had bad dreams and needed to talk about what if everything went belly up and I lost everything. It was my biggest dread being left with nothing but after 12 months I decided to leave it to Kev, relax and concentrate on work and you know what; it was the best thing that happened.

Kev and his team hammered away for me and where I had done wrong it was admitted, I held my hands up and agreed the tax liability, interest and penalty but a huge amount was estimates used by the inspector that bore no relation to the time true facts and Kev would not accept them even though I know at time he was under tremendous pressure due to work. As Alex, an ex-HMIT Grade 7 in Kev’s team, said I wouldn’t have liked to have boxed against you as you are always coming back to have a fight.
